Day 70 - Gaithersburg MD to Washington DC

Thursday May 2, Biked 40 miles. Total mileage by end of day: 4060.

Started misty and cool then got hot and humid.

Happy to get on the Rock Creek Trail. What a gorgeous trail!

Once off the trail, now passing lots of nice houses in DC.

Then onto the Capital Crescent Rail Trail

Through a well lit tunnel.

And along a portion of the C&O Canal Towpath again but I stuck to the paved trail instead.

Down a two way separated bike facility.

A pretty view of the Potomac.

Olivia and me at the Washington Monument.

Olivia and me at the Lincoln Memorial.

Visited Lorna and Lauren at the League of American Bicyclists. They help keep roads safe for all cyclists across the US. The LAB was responsible for the very first paved roads in the US!

Visited the Rails to Trails Conservancy in the Duke Ellington Building.

It has a very large and very classy elevator.

Cool mural in the RTC office.

Amy and Suzanne loved Olivia my sea turtle mascot :-)

Did 2 presentations at the Jelleff Boys and Girls club in Washington DC. Great kids and our future leaders!

Rode past the National Presbyterian Church center. I would have stopped but it was after 5pm.

Nice sharrows on a low speed residential street.

An interesting bike only lane allowing bicyclists to travel in both directions on what would otherwise be a one way street.

Then I arrived at my classmate's house for the evening.
